Sept. 16, 8:20 a.m.

The Antioch Police Department received a call from a man stating he had been shot in the area of Somersville Road at Delta Fair Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, who had sustained a gunshot wound to his back, sitting in his pickup truck.

The victim, a 34-year-old Sacramento resident, and his passenger said the driver of a white, four-door sedan had fired a shot that penetrated the driver’s door and struck the driver, who was transported to an area hospital, where he is listed in critical but stable condition. The injury is not considered life threatening.

The suspects fled westbound on Delta Fair Boulevard and were not located. The suspect’s vehicle is believed to have been occupied by a male driver and a female passenger. After reviewing nearby surveillance video cameras, investigators identified what they believed to be the suspect’s vehicle.

On Sept. 17, a patrol officer spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle in the same area as the shooting.

The officer stopped the vehicle, which was driven by 24-year-old Cornelius Brown of Antioch. A loaded firearm was found in the vehicle. A search of Brown’s residence in Antioch produced a rifle, ammunition and marijuana packaged for sale. Brown later admitted to the shooting.

He was arrested and taken to the Martinez Detention Facility. The shooting is believed to be a random, road-rage incident.

Sept. 27, 11:50 a.m.

A subject was driving eastbound on East 18th Street east of A Street when a suspect pulled up on his left and began to yell at him.

When the first driver rolled down his window to hear what the suspect was saying, the suspect fired a shot in his direction, striking the rear driver’s side of his vehicle. When the driver, who was not injured, made a quick turn to get away, the suspect made a U-turn and drove back westbound toward A Street.

The suspect is described as a dark-haired, white or Hispanic male adult in his early 20s. His vehicle is similar to a ’90s-vintage Ford pickup truck, white with no tailgate. The vehicle had black and red rims.

Those with information regarding this incident should call the Antioch Police Department at 925-778-2441.
