Dentist Tracy Benhamou is leading an anti-decay movement by giving away dollars and electric glowing toothbrushes in exchange for cavity-provoking candy this Halloween, offering trick-or-treaters a chance to cash in on unwanted treats.

All little ghosts and goblins need to do is bring their excess candy to Oak Street Family Dental, 62 Oak St. in Brentwood, on Nov. 2 between 1 and 4 p.m. and they’ll receive $1 per pound of candy they bring in. All candy donations will be shipped to our troops overseas.

“Ditch the candy – that’s what we’re saying,” said Benhamou. “Visiting your dentist twice a year and brushing daily are great preventative measures, but doing away with excess sweets altogether would really give your teeth a healthy boost. Kids can still have all of the fun of trick-or-treating, and now their piggy banks will benefit as well. Plus, these glowing brushes we’re giving out are really cool. They’re like light sabers for your mouth.”

Eating candy can also lead to hyperactivity and weight gain. In some cases, the wrong types of candy can also lead to broken teeth and damaged braces.
