Moore detached from spirit of community

Editor:

Reggie Moore is seeking re-election to the Antioch City Council and is asking for our vote, but I question whether he deserves our vote.

Mr. Moore says he supports our police and is committed to fighting crime, but he is the same Reggie Moore who during a 2009 Antioch Quality of Life Forum tried to rationalize the actions of street thug Lovelle Mixon, who gunned down four Oakland police officers.

Mr. Moore says he is for fiscal responsibility, but with Antioch on the brink of insolvency and with city workers being laid off, he wants to spend $40,000 of public money to host a Halloween party.

Mr. Moore says he is seeking solutions to Antioch’s financial shortfall and so he supports a half-cent sales tax increase (Antioch’s sales tax rate would become 9¾ percent) even though sales taxes are regressive and would hurt our poorest residents the most.

Mr. Moore says he likes to get out in the community and get a firsthand look at what is happening in Antioch, yet he has never been seen at a First Saturday cleanup, or a Coffee With the Cops meeting. He failed to attend the 9/11 memorial walk around the mall and has never been at any of the East County Military Family and Friends events.

It seems clear that we cannot afford a disinterested, detached politician such as Reggie Moore for four more years. So I join the growing chorus of Antioch voters in proclaiming No More Moore!
