Shop with a Cop brightens holidays

Members of the Brentwood Police Activities League and students from the Brentwood Union School District, enjoyed a shopping spree at Target recently thanks to the Shop with a Cop program.

People took notice when 13 Brentwood Police cars pulled into the Slatten Ranch Target on a recent Saturday morning.

Anytime that kind of show of force descends upon a community, something big is going down. This was no exception. Students from Brentwood schools, together with their police officer escorts, emerged from the vehicles, grabbed a shopping cart and began the Brentwood Police Activities League’s annual Shop with a Cop event. What took place during the next 90 minutes touched the hearts of nearly every shopper and red-shirted staff member inside.

Brentwood School District School Resource Officer Michael Rucker, who organizes Shop with a Cop, started asking for donations after Thanksgiving. During his work in the district, he had met multiple students whose lives were impacted by circumstances beyond their control. He wanted to do something to help.
