As residents this week learned of the devastating fires in the North Bay, East County supporters rallied with abundant relief efforts. For those looking to help, here are some links.

On a lighter note, Halloween is just around the corner, and there are myriad options for local ghosts, witches and vampires to have a ghoul-filled happy and safe Halloween. Check out all the local happenings in this week’s edition of The Press on page 10A.

And speaking of The Press, a great big shout-out to our loyal Facebook friends who participated in a recent post on The Press’ Facebook page and helped it go viral. We asked readers: “Without saying your age, what is something you remember from your childhood that a younger person would not understand?” The answers were as varied as they were abundant. The response was so great from readers that we hit a milestone of over 5 million views, and the numbers are still growing. Thanks to everyone who played along, and for those who missed the fun, visit our Facebook page and have a go!

And in other news, The Press was recently recognized as a “Friend of 4-H” last weekend at the Contra Costa County 4-H award ceremony. We are proud to support the local 4-H community. To learn more about the Contra Costa County 4-H, visit 4hcontracosta.ucanr.edu
