Social Talk about town logo

There’s a new coffee house in town called, Big House Beans. People are posting about how much they love having a new coffee option in Brentwood. Pictures of beautiful caffeinated creations are also filling Instagram and Facebook feeds. Across the board, new customers are saying that they like the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the place, and most have posted that the coffee is worth trying.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no, it’s a motor-powered paraglider! The noise of what sounded like a lawnmower engine had many residents taking to Nextdoor to discuss what was flying over their homes. Lured to the skies during a weekend of beautiful weather, a brave paraglider soared over Bristow Middle School and area neighborhoods, sparking a social-media debate.

Speaking of birds, a blue and gold macaw mysteriously showed up in someone’s backyard late last week. The beautiful bird seems to be enjoying its freedom because it’s not making capture easy. The homeowner who is “hosting” the bird in her backyard posted on social media in the hope of finding its owner. So far, the homeowner has contacted Parrot911, Animal Control Services and some of the local veterinarians. Pictures of the parrot were posted on Nextdoor, Craigslist and Fido Alert. According to social-media posts, no one has claimed the macaw as of this week.

Need a new mattress? Adams Middle School created a FB event promoting its upcoming Mattress fundraiser scheduled for April 28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will be held at the school located at 401 American Ave., in Brentwood. On display will be over 20 different new mattress sets such as Simmons Beautyrest and Englander priced up to 50 percent less than retail. Profits from this one-day sale will go directly to the Adams band.

A popular rant this week on Facebook was all about how our appliances don’t last as long as they use to. Many people jumped on that thread to share how expensive repairs to refrigerators are and how home-warranty policies don’t always cover the repair. One person posted a simple solution to overcome this frustration and the expense of repairs. Her suggestion:  “Marry an appliance repair man.” Problem solved.
