While summer is far from done as far as the weather is concerned, it is over for our local kiddos! That’s right, kids go back to school Monday, and Oakley started on July 27,  so prepare yourselves - traffic is coming. Specifically, morning and afternoon traffic on local thoroughfares. What’s more, you may want to spend your weekend away from the shopping malls, as they promise to be a last-minute-essentials battlefield.

If you’re of the artistic mind, maybe use this weekend away from price tags to sign-up for the City of Oakley’s Utility Box Mural Project. The city wants to beautify 10 utility boxes in the area, bringing art into unexpected places. Like the City of Brentwood’s mural project, these works will showcase the city’s agricultural history and unique appeal. But don’t worry if you can’t come up with the perfect design right away, applications aren’t due until Aug. 19.
