Come join the fun at the Big Break Visitor Center at the Delta, Saturday, July 28, for Big Break Dune Day. Citizen Stewardship Project Intern Brett Walsh will lead the family-friendly event, which will include weeding invasive plants and readying the area for autumn seed collection and planting. The sand dunes community plant plot is the brainchild of the late Chris Thayer, botanist and Oakley dune enthusiast. Together with the help of local schools, volunteers and retired park district employees, the project is well on its way to becoming a signature spot highlighting Oakley’s natural heritage.
The event runs from 8 to 11 a.m., and gloves, tools, sunscreen and refreshments will be provided. Attendees are invited to come for the whole event or just pop in for a portion of the three hours.
