Brentwood screenwriter and filmmaker Reid Martin Basso’s script “Hillwood Bend, 1961” has been named to the 2014 Cinequest Screenwriting Competition Top 10. If selected as this year’s winner, Basso could win a $1,000 cash prize and a screening opportunity at a future Cinequest Film Festival.

“Hillwood Bend, 1961” is a coming-of-age story set during a time “before Yankee Doodle patriotism collided with Generation Free-Love.” Basso’s other contest submission “My Neighbor’s Bird” was ranked No. 57 at this year’s competition.

Basso is a San Jose State University graduate currently attending a graduate program at San Francisco Academy of Art University. He most recently served as unit production manager and location scout for “The Last Smile,” which was cast and filmed primarily in East County. The film is slated to be released later this year.
