When Sharon Lundstrom (Cook) received the phone call telling her she had won the “I Love The Press’” annual contest along with the $200 cash prize, the first thing she did was tell her husband Jerald.
“I was very surprised and excited,” said Sharon. “When I relayed the good news to my husband, he suggested that we should share our good fortune by donating the proceeds to help needy families in Brentwood. We immediately thought of Feed the Children.”
In 2008, Jean Romer, a resident in the Summerset I community who passed away in 2013, discovered that the Brentwood community is home to families with children who go to bed hungry. A beloved grandmother, mom and friend, her idea was to start an annual drive to collect food specifically to help feed children (and their families) living in Brentwood - and Feed the Children was born. With its business and nonprofit partners, the organization now provides more than 2,000 bags of groceries to needy Brentwood families.
“So, this year, in addition to the food we usually donate, we will be passing our $200 winner’s award on to Delta Community Services to help Feed the Children of Brentwood. Thank you Brentwood Press for being a great read - and for helping us to help others in our community.”
