A new restaurant in Brentwood is taking diners south of the border and straight to the sea.
Originally owned by master chef Don Carlos Cerda and his wife, María Esperanza de Cerda, Mariscos Acuario Seafood and Grill was once located in Michoacán, Mexico, in the early 1980s. When their son, East Bay resident Don Carlos Cerda Jr., and his wife, Rosalba, decided to carry on the family tradition, they opened another location in Brentwood, offering the same fresh and delicious dishes that made the restaurant well-known in Mexico.
“With the passing of the years, the menu greatly expanded,” said Cerda Jr. “These days, this one-of-a kind restaurant is regarded as an important international icon for its preparation of soups, broths, ceviches and seafood cocktails, and for it’s outstanding cuisine inspired with a semblance of tradition and an indisputable passion for excellent taste.”
The eatery, which opened earlier this year, is a family-friendly restaurant offering delicious, fresh seafood and unique, flavorful, made-to-order to dishes. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days a week.
“Our customers love and are fascinated by our dishes, since all are authentic and come from original family recipes,” said Cerda Jr.
Their specialty items include tacos gobernador, with fresh grilled shrimp, bell peppers and mozzarella cheese; seafood soup, with shrimp, octopus, fish, scallops, crab legs and mussels; a huge variety of ceviches, including Caribbean and sweet and sours, all made with fresh ingredients at the time of ordering; shrimp, oyster, octopus, clam, scallop or all-seafood cocktails; pozole verde, a traditional Mexican hominy soup made with pork; carne en su jugo, meat cooked in its own juice with bacon, beans and tomatillo sauce; camarones a la diabla, a very spicy, extra-hot shrimp; and other dishes that keeps customers coming back for more.
“Mariscos is seafood-centric, so fresh and so delicious,” said Antioch resident Sherri Bousloz. “Their staff is just as amazing as their food. They get to know their customers and are so accommodating.”
Besides delicious food, Mariscos Acuario Seafood and Grill also has an elegant, full-service bar area.
“We offer the highest quality of wine and liquor and offer a great variety of traditional and cosmopolitan cocktails that please even the most demanding tastes,” said Cerda Jr.
Guests also enjoy Mariscos’ specials. Kids eat free with each paying adult on Tuesdays, margaritas are half off from noon to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays. On Thursdays, regular draft beer Micheladas are two for the price of one, and coming soon, Mariscos will have live mariachi bands on Friday afternoons.
