Around here, water is a driving force, whether it be the rain bringing relief from drought, snow falling to the delight of skiers in the mountains or Delta channels making spring and summer in Discovery Bay a time for swimming, boating, fishing and relaxation.Â
Now, the town has a one-stop shop for their warm weather fun - NorCal MasterCraft has set up shop at the Discovery Bay Marina.
“We just opened our shop here in January, and the first thing I noticed is it’s a unique community that extends past just the town,” said Rick LaManna, who owns the business with his brother, Chris LaManna. “The water-centric quality of the area shares a common thread with (my brother and I), and the small-business community is very strong here. We couldn’t believe how quickly the Lions Club and the Chamber of Commerce gathered around us.”
The business, which will have its grand opening in April, sells fishing, tow and pontoon boats; offers financing and boat repair and maintenance; and sells all manner of water-recreation equipment, including wakeboards, surfboards, play tubes, vests, fenders and wax. With five other locations and a long history with water-based recreation, LaManna has a unique perspective on helping customers get right on the water.
“My brother and I were raised in this industry, beginning in 1978, when our father opened Harrison’s Marine Center, which had locations in California and Arizona,” said LaManna. “We really love the people here and enjoy helping them make memories on the water, the way our father did with us. Some of my best memories are of being out on the family boat.”
Sa far, customers are very pleased, not only with LaManna’s products, but also with his customer service.
“I went in just to visit (at another location) and ended up buying a pontoon boat,” said Christopher Sasville, a Discovery Bay resident. “The people there are professional and very friendly, they treated me very well and I was able to test drive the boat immediately. Not many dealers offer that.”
The shop’s location at the yacht harbor makes it easy to get customers on the water right away, and LaManna will be making it even more tempting to stop by and shop during his grand opening next month, with steep discounts and special offers.
“When we get to our grand opening, we will be offering 50 percent off various products in our pro shop, as well as rebates and incentives worth up to $5,000 on MasterCraft and Colbalt boats,” said LaManna. “We also are looking forward to reviving the Discovery Bay Boat Show, a philanthropic event with other dealers and the Lions Club.”
Until then, LaManna encourages residents to stop by and check out his shop.
“We’re people centered and we hope to help our customers experience what we grew up with,” he said. “Our dad raised us to have enthusiasm, and when you are enthusiastic, success follows.”
