Paddle for Fame in Discovery Bay is back in an unofficial way

The original Paddle for Fame event, above, is coming back this year as a grass-roots, unofficial version of its former self.

Outdoor enthusiasts looking for some summer fun in the sun have two events in Discovery Bay to look forward to – both on the same day.

First up on Saturday, June 25, is the Unofficial Paddle in the Bay, a takeoff on the one-time popular water event held each year in Discovery Bay, where floaters and floatees gathered to connect their water devices for a chance at a world record and plenty of fun. It’s been three years since the event capsized, but this year, a grass-roots unofficial version of the event is on the books for 1 p.m. in Marina Bay.

“It’s not an organized event, it’s just a free-for-all, come have fun on the bay day,” said Chanel Johnson, who helped launch the unofficial party. “Share and invite everyone you know that loved this event.”
