Firefighters from the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District push the new Engine 53 into the station Monday, Aug. 31, 2020. The event is a long-standing tradition when new engines are put into service. Engine 53 is the first of three new Type 1 engines – those intended to primarily fight structure fires – expected to go into service in the district in the next few weeks. They replace aging engines that are long overdue for replacement. Immediately upon completion of the dedication ceremony, Engine 53 responded on its first call for service, a commercial fire in Brentwood.
