Brentwood residents braved soaking rain Dec. 16 to welcome home the state champion-winning Liberty football team, complete with a Brentwood police escort.
The Lions defeated Sierra Canyon 19-17 in a thrilling come-from-behind victory to win its first state championship in its 116-year history.
The large crowd erupted in cheer as head coach Ryan Partridge stepped off the bus, followed by coaches and players.
“It’s great having all these people out here to support us,” said Liberty quarterback Jay Butterfield. "Corn country travels well."
