Local donors and organizations have given generously in scholarships to this year’s graduating seniors in the Liberty Union High School District (LUHSD).

A total of $413,300 was awarded to graduates of Heritage, Liberty, Freedom, Independence and La Paloma High Schools, according to LUHSD Superintendent Eric Volta. Several donors, including the Brentwood Rotary Club, provided multiple scholarships.

“It is amazing how many times this year I have said that we are so fortunate to live in an area that supports our students as much as ours,” said Volta. “This is truly a special community.”

Brentwood Rotary Club provides $18,000 per year in scholarships to students who pass a rigorous application process, said Seana Fippin, its public relations chair and rising president-elect. She presented scholarships to graduates during commencement at Independence High School on Wednesday, June 5.

The club has been in Brentwood since 1949 and is one of the largest local donors to graduating seniors. It is a nonprofit organization and “service club comprised of local community members who get together for the common goal of improving our local and global community through service and friendship,” according to its website, www.brentwoodrotary94513.com.

“We are proud to support our local high school district,” Fippin said. “Our club supports education and literacy — that is our philanthropic mission.”
