A Chevrolet pickup truck traveling west on State Route 4 was destroyed by fire on Wednesday afternoon. The driver of the truck escaped without injury.
The report of a burning vehicle was made at 2:31 p.m. The call drew responses from Engines Engines 52 and 94 from the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District as well as the California Highway Patrol and the Brentwood Police Department.
The driver pulled the truck onto the shoulder of the highway just east of the Lone Tree Way exit. Flames completely destroyed the truck’s engine compartment and cab and burned with enough intensity to shatter glass and melt paint before being extinguished by the crew from Engine 52.
