A Fresno resident, Richard LeRoy Martin departed to be with our Lord and Savior on June 26, 2021, at the age of 86.
He passed away in his home, as he had wished, with the kind and caring assistance of Nancy Hinds Hospice, his loving wife, Anne, and his family at his side.
Richard was born on August 4, 1934, in Sumner, Nebraska, to Opal and Dale Martin.
He grew up with his brothers, Harold, Gale, and Ray, in Oakley, California.
He attended Oakley Elementary and worked at the Oakley Market.
Richard met Jean Boseck during their college years at San Jose State University, and they were married in 1955.
They both taught in Brentwood and Knightsen, and Richard worked at Davis Market in his spare time.
They raised four children—JoDee Martin, Julie Cleeland, Jayne Miller, and Jimmy Martin—in the Brentwood area. The Knightsen Pool and Swim Team were proud accomplishments for the couple.
The family moved to Pleasanton, then Alpine County, where Richard found his dream Job: county superintendent of schools.
In 1985, Jean passed away after a battle with cancer.
In 1988, Richard met and married Anne and made Fresno his home.
His family expanded to include Anne’s children, Debbie VonBerg and Michael Bertelsen. They built the Martin Ranch and enjoyed many years there with family, friends, and beloved dogs until Richard’s recent passing.
Richard is survived by his wife, Anne Martin, as well as his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends who considered him family.
Memorial services will be held on July 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 364 North Barstow Ave., Fresno.
