There has been a lot of talk and questions about some of the changes happening here at The Press, so I wanted to clarify a few things.

First of all, The Press papers, which include the Brentwood, Oakley and Discovery Bay publications, are free community newspapers and the intent is for them to remain free newspapers. What we are asking is for you to let us know how you want it delivered.

The Press papers are produced by local community residents, and the stories are about and written for the benefit of our communities.

With that being said, we are simply asking for delivery costs. So let us know: how would you like your news delivered?

If you would like the paper delivered to your home every week, then sign up! It’s only $20 a year – less than 39 cents a week. There is also an online option for $20 a year. We also offer a bundled package for $30 a year, where you can have the paper delivered to your home each week and enjoy unlimited digital access to our daily pushes, the breaking news, slideshows, videos and all of our local stories online, 24/7.

But if you don’t want to pay for delivery to your home, you can still read it for free online with The ePress edition – our online page-turning software that allows you to see all the news we print in the paper each week and enjoy our exciting new feature videos as well. You can access it at Sign up and we will email you The ePress paper every Thursday afternoon, or you can pick up a printed copy for free here at The Press office, 248 Oak St., or at over 70 locations around East County.

What you won’t get with The ePress, however, is access to all our online features, photo slideshows and daily news and information happening in and around your communities. We have a saying here at The Press: “We’re a weekly newspaper, but we’re a daily news site.” And our online news site changes every day, sometimes multiple times a day.

So the choice is simple. If you want your paper delivered in print form, let us know. If you would like to have access to all the online news 24/7, then sign up for our digital subscription. If you want both, you can have that too. And, finally, if you don’t want to pay for either delivery method, simply log onto to read The ePress edition of our weekly printed Press paper.

Sign up for the option that best suits your news needs and show your support for community journalism. We would love to hear from you with any questions or comments. Feel free to email me directly at or call me at 925-634-1441.

Thank you again for reading your local newspapers, frequenting our local advertisers and supporting local journalism.
