Editor: I am writing as a resident of Discovery Bay regarding PG&E’s recent 48-hour gas outage affecting 6,000 homes in our community.
While it was a definite inconvenience, I would like to give recognition to the hard-working PG&E employees who were professional, courteous and over-the-top concerned for the residents they were servicing. While (the company) recently and understandably has been under fire for their corporate disregard for public safety and close relationship with the Public Utilities Commission, it should not in any way be attributed to the hard-working men and women who perform the work in the field. Fortunately for the public’s best interest, these workers are highly trained members of I.B.E.W. Local Union 1245 and are normal people working payday to payday, providing for their families, and they showed much compassion while performing their duties in restoring service to Discovery Bay.
While corporate PG&E continues to give themselves huge bonuses rather than make their systems safer, they should instead consider rerouting any bonus they feel compelled to give out to these workers who actually performed the work and treated us Discovery Bay residents with the utmost respect.
