As the publisher of The Press, it is my honor and privilege to be a part of the process that delivers a community news website and over 40,000 newspapers each week to the wonderful communities of Brentwood, Oakley and Discovery Bay.
The times are changing, and we are changing with them. We are shifting from a free community newspaper to a subscription model. Our shift to a subscription model will help us continue to deliver relevant, accurate and informative news in a timely manner to the communities in which we serve.
Many considerations have brought us to the decision to ask you to partner with us in the cost of reporting and delivering your news. In today’s economy, community journalism needs the support from the readers as well as the advertisers. Printing and delivering a newspaper to readers that subscribe prevents us from using resources that are unnecessary and undesired. The technology of today brings the added responsibilities of delivering news 24 hours a day on many different digital platforms as well as in print.
We are asking readers who value their local, award-winning journalism and the staff who brings you the news each week to partner with us and help ensure our ability to continue investigating, reporting and delivering your local news online and in print for years to come. We want you to know that much of our online content is available at no charge. Coupons, classifieds, community calendar events, obituaries, press releases, announcements, cop logs and breaking news will remain accessible to all.
There are a number of options to subscribe: print-only, digital-only, print and digital, and lifetime memberships. Look for our ‘faithful subscriber’ advertising campaign in the newspaper for subscription information or go to our website, www.thepress.net, and click on the Subscribe button located at the top of the homepage. You will find all the subscription options available to choose from there, but if you would rather talk to me, please call our office at 925-634-1441.
I value this community and our readers. Thank you for partnering with us during this transition and continuing to support community journalism.
