First, there were smartphones, but now we are seeing more smartHOMES. Here are some popular devices that can make your life easier and maybe even save you some money.
Thermostats. A smart thermostat means you can adjust your HVAC system even when you aren’t home. You can set up a schedule that’s much more fine-tuned to your needs than the old type thermostats could. You have even set your system to react to weather forecasts for your area! Some even recognize when there is no one in the house and react accordingly. Others can synch with your connected fans and blinds to work together.
Switches, sensors, and bulbs. Having lights on in an empty room is usually waste of energy (unless you are doing it for security purposes). There are now connected bulbs and switches that can be controlled remotely, or on a program, or with sensors so they turn off when no one is in the room.
Plugs. Many appliances or devices don’t shut off all the way when they aren’t in use but only go into standby mode. There are now smart plugs that cut the power when an appliance or device isn’t in use.
Energy monitoring. “Sense” is one brand of system that identifies which appliances are drawing the most power. You can also set up energy-saving automation plans. There are also smart power strips that reduce idle power consumption.
Sprinkler system. Some smart sprinkler systems adjust the watering schedule based on the local weather forecast. They can also be controlled remotely. There are even flow meters that can detect a leak and even bypass that section to water other parts of the yard.
