James Aguilar, left, has won four consecutive gold medals in competitions.

James Aguilar, 14, is on a roll. He won consecutive martial arts titles during the month of February. He kicked off the month with a win at the Rumble in the Redwoods in Aptos. He followed it up with another win at Jiu-Jitsu by the Sea Tournament in San Jose a week later – his fourth consecutive gold medal win by submission.

For Aguilar, the wins come via hard work and training. He’s been training for two years and competing for one.

“His success is a direct result of his dedication, humility and respectful attitude on and off the mat,” said Crosley Gracie, owner of Crosley Gracie Jiujitsu.

Other students that medaled at the Rumble in the Redwoods Tournament were gold-medalists: Xavier Milan, Maksim Moskalenko, Kristopher Tellez and Willie Trapanese; silver medalists: Bryant Ferguson, Cody Spangenberg, Tony Trapanese, Tyler Dantono, Brennen Rocha, Zach Boyd, Adrian Hinojosa and Jacob Tabasa; and bronze medalists: Joaquin Elliot, Brent Lesemberg and Dmarcus Cooper.
